The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a vast network of railways, energy pipelines, highways, and streamlined border crossing westward and southward to Pakistan, India, and the rest of Southeast Asia (Chatzky, 2020). The project was first unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, which was identified as a significant element of Beijing's effort to improve ties and stimulate growth and development along its geographic periphery.
