Foreigners feature disproportionately in Police's statistics on serious crime
According to criminality figures for 2016 released by the Hellenic Police, foreigners contribute significantly in serious crime. Foreigners are 36% of those arrested for homicides, 47.2% of those arrested for rape and 32.3% of those arrested for robberies.

Greeks’ views towards immigrants remain negative
According to an opinion poll conducted for think-tank “Dianeosis”, 49% of Greeks view immi-grants negatively, 88.3% of Greeks consider that there are “too many” immigrants in the country, 64.4% think that immigrants contribute to increased criminality and 58% that they increase unemployment.

Greek population shrunk
Low birth-rate and outward migration due to the economic crisis have resulted in the shrinking of the population of Greeks by almost 200,000 since 2011.

Refugee status was granted only to 2,986 cases in 2016
According to Asylum Service data refugee status was granted to 2,711 cases in the first degree and to 275 cases in the second degree during 2016 (compared to 4,469 in total in 2015).

13% of births in Greece came from foreign mothers
According to 2015 data 13% of births in Greece came from foreign mothers (11,943 births out of a total of 91,847). Moreover, the Greek population continues to decline and age.
