According to Syriza's Parliamentary Representative Mr Thanassis Petrakos a revocation of the Schengen Treaty from Greece's part cannot be ruled out "after study and preparation"!

How many are the country's illegal immigrants?
The new deputy Minister for Immigration Policy Ms Tasia Christodoulopoulou claimed that there are about 300,000 illegal immigrants currently in Greece.

How many are the country's (mostly ex-post facto legalized) immigrants?
According to the latest data 462,319 non-EU immigrants have a valid residence permit, while further 135,478 residence permits are under review for renewal. The vast majority of the residence permit holders (68.44%) are from Albania.

Unemployment much higher for foreign nationals
According to the latest Labor Force Survey (4th quarter of 2014) the unemployment rate of foreign nationals was much higher compared to the Greeks (31.7% compared to 25.6% respectively).

The deputy Minister for Citizens' Protection Mr Yiannis Panoussis publicly stated that Greece "cannot bear to take in more immigrants".

Greek workers constituted 64% of those working uninsured
During 2014 the relevant checks showed that 35.58% of workers found to be employed without any social security were foreigners and 64.42% were Greeks.

63% of Greeks are skeptical about the release of illegal immigrants from the Amygdaleza detention center
According to an opinion poll conducted by the University of Macedonia the decision to release illegal immigrants from the Amygdaleza detention center made a bad impression on 63% of Greeks, a good impression on 25% and 12% did not answer.
