When the big flooding hit several parts of Germany this month, the military was re-quested immediately to help with about 850 soldiers and special equipment to clear streets, secure supplies, help with the damages and prevent new floodings (Bun-deswehr, 2021a). The army is allowed to support civil organisations during natural disasters like floodings or forest fires (Bundeswehr 2021b) but is not present in maintaining internal order like it is in other countries.
